Last week, I got to shoot Issac & Tyler.

This time, I had the privilege of shooting their adorable older sister, Jordyn. Gena brought her over after she got home from school so we could have some fun with her!

I absolutely LOVE these first three pictures. And we got to test out my new 'wall' background too...

Triplets and a Toddler! {Detroit Michigan Children's Photographer}

Michelle and I met through LAPOM (the Livingston Area Parents of Multiples). She just had triplets (two girls and a boy) in October, and she also has a two year old.

It was SO much fun taking pictures for her. The babies had their own agenda, but eventually they cooperated, and even Zac was up for a few shots!

Michelle's very good friend, Lisa, was on her way to the airport that morning, so we made sure to get a quick pic with her, the trio, and Zac!

I have a feeling that Zac and Nicholas might become best buds...they have a LOT in common!

This might be one of my all-time favorite pics!

My friend, Kerri contacted me to do pictures of her and her earth family. You see, we got to know each other online through a support group for parents whom have lost multiples...we had an instant connection because we had both lost twin girls.

Since starting my photo blog, I've had a great deal of interest, from friends, family, and even strangers whom have found me online!

I wanted to come up with a name for my business that would have a lot of meaning to me, and so, with the help of my friend Amanda from The Pink Room, "Two Angels Photography" was born!

Those of you that know me personally will understand that the name has a special connotation. Not only am I the mother to two wonderful earth angels, my two boys - I am also the mother of twins, my daughters with wings.

I look forward to capturing more special moments for you!

Noah is my friend, Chrissy's son. We met online and she just so happens to live near Ann Arbor, so...over the last two year's, we've had the opportunity to get together frequently. As a result, Noah and Nicholas are good buddies!

Lily's First Halloween!

Last night was my first time photographing someone other than my children, and it was SO much fun! I had the privilege of shooting my friend Kelly's little girl, Lily, who is just a month or so older than Christopher.

Lily was a great subject, though we had to call in 'reinforcements' in the form of her big sister Rachel, to get her to show some personality! Note to self: best to shoot babies in the AM, not the PM!

My name is Christina, and for as long as I can remember, I have been interested in photography. I even went so far as to create a 'dark room' in my bedroom as a child - unfortunately, my favorite baby blanket didn't survive that experiment...

How did this interest lead to Two Angels Photography? Experiences in my life have taught me how important it is to capture fleeting moments in time - those that make you smile, laugh, or even cry - and hold onto them forever.

When my oldest son was born, I wanted to capture every detail. His beautiful head of dark hair, his first smiles, his first steps. After having my second son, something happened...something 'clicked'. I began making photographs, instead of snapshots. Friends and family saw my hobby developing into so much more, and encouraged me to offer my services to others.

I'm a natural-light, on-location photographer at heart, though living in Michigan presents a *bit* of a challenge in the winter months, and so I also have a studio in my home.

While I certainly offer my services to people of all ages, my true love lies in photographing children. Often times you'll find me on the floor playing, or dancing, or singing silly songs...I find there's nothing more rewarding than engaging a child and capturing their true spirit. The twinkle in their eye - the sparkle in their smile - the spring in their step.

I specialize in babies, children, family, maternity, newborns, pets, couples, engagement, and high school senior portraits in Southeastern Michigan: Metro Detroit, Metro Ann Arbor, Lansing, East Lansing, the Flint area, and Livingston County (Brighton, Howell, Pinckney, Hartland, South Lyon, and Fowlerville).

Where did the name “Two Angels Photography” come from? It has a special meaning - I'm not only the mother of my 'earth' angels - my boys - I'm also a mother to my twin daughters that live in heaven.

What camera and lenses do you use and for what? My camera is a Canon 50D. My lenses are the kit lens (that came with the camera), a 75-30mm zoom lens, and my two favorites, the 'nifty fifty' 50mm f/1.8 and my 28mm f/2.8.

Because my camera is not a full-frame camera, and has a 1.6 crop factor, I prefer my 28mm...it allows me to get in close! With the 50mm, I have to be back farther. I like to talk to my clients while I'm taking pictures, so when I'm farther back, I feel like I’m shouting and am not able to give much direction. And when I'm shooting children, I like to be VERY close to be able to capture those candid moments!

Do you work with newborns? Yes! To do newborn shoots, you need TIME! It can take anywhere from 3-4 hours to capture a newborn, and all of them are different. The best time is within the first 7-10 days of life. Moms (or Dads) should turn up the heat (we might sweat but the baby will be comfortable in his/her birthday suit!) Make sure the parents feed and change the baby before I arrive. It takes a LOT of little steps to set up for a good newborn shoot.

How many shots do you generally take when you do a shoot? I used to over shoot. I just shot, shot, shot, shot until I was for SURE there MUST be something good on there. The funny thing is, that just takes more time! Now, with a normal family or child session (not extended family, because there’s more to shoot), I’ll take somewhere around 50-60 shots. Another thing is, now I’ll really try and wait for a shot...I'd rather have to toss an image because of closed eyes or “user mistakes” than tossing just because I took too many!

What should we wear? Well, it depends. I hate to say that, but it really does. Since we're in Michigan, a lot will depend on the time of year. Colors that compliment YOU are the best; choose colors that make you feel like yourself, comfortable, and happy! Some tips:

Good ideas:

Wearing outfits in the same color family (light blue and dark blue, etc.)
Dark, muted colors that you can find easily in nature (i.e.: greens, blues, browns)
Solids or simple patterns
That hot little black dress
Fitted clothing – big, baggy shirts can make you look a lot larger than you are
Comfortable clothes you can sit, stand, run, and jump around in
Nice jeans, paired with a dressy top
Accessories like funky necklaces, jackets, hats, scarves, sunglasses, etc.
Bringing one very dressy outfit and one very casual outfit

Bad ideas:

Bright white shirts
Wild patterns or horizontal stripes
Shirts with writing on them
Sleeveless shirts
Polo shirts on girls – for some reason, very few girls can pull this off well. If you really want to wear a polo, make sure it is fitted for a woman’s body, and not cut straight on the sides.
Shirts with short hemlines – the bottom edge of the shirt should hit at your hips or lower
Crazy colors (orange, lime green, fuschia, etc)
Watches or rings, unless they have a lot of sentimental value to you.. We want to emphasize the engagement ring, and lots of other jewelry will take away from that.
Short skirts, low necklines, anything even remotely risque
Exact matching outfits – it might seem cute now to wear the exact same outfit, but in a few years, you will dislike it - trust me!

Do you have a studio set-up? & if so, what equipment do you suggest using? No, at this time, I don’t have a studio set-up. I shoot with natural light, so when I go into someone’s home, I use my surroundings and I will find the biggest window and use my blankets to drape over a couch or pillow or whatever my client has to work with. I hope soon, to be able to have a studio in the basement of my home, but for now, just natural light.

Custom photography is more of a luxury than your entry level cookie cutter chain experience. Many clients opt for it to be a once a year special experience, some opt to have custom photography sessions done to record their child’s stages in life. Having said this, it is clear that custom photography is not in everyone’s budget, it is something that most families save for to splurge on from time to time to memorialize their children as they really are (not posed and primped in the cookie cutter studio setting).

The beauty of custom photography is in the choices and in the luxury of thoses options. The customized service level you are sure to experience will be amazing. The knowledge that your final images are the result of someone caring about those moments so much that they take extra time ensuring that the artwork you receive is good enough to stand by with their name on it. That level of quality and commitment is all but lost in the age of "mass produced," "mass marketed," corporate "everyone is a number". Custom photography is based on being unique to you. How great an experience would be, to be able to sit back and allow a photographer to do this highly custom work for images that you will most likely cherish for a lifetime?

Keep in mind more than anything that the Lexus will never appreciate in value the way your portraits will. The portrait art you become invested in from your custom photographer will no doubt increase in value and become more priceless as the years pass.
